Gently winding stone paths, stairs and patios add to the beauty and tranquility of this cottage retreat on Whitestone Lake.
Over grown grass, trees and shurbs on the lake side had to be cleared out before the real landscaping could begin.
Features
The goal of this project was to maximize the outdoor living space while enjoying the true beauty of nature. A two tiered retaining wall was built on the driveway side with extra wide granite steps leading to the main entrance. A stepping stone path leads around the side of the cottage, connecting with a stone stair case to the deck or an alternative path to the wood shed. The stone stair case leads down to a very large interlocking patio along the entire lake side front of the cottage, wraping around the cottage to the right side deck. This interlocking patio is supported by a retaining wall, with peastone laid for a clean aesthetic. Two sets of granite stairs exit from the interlocking patio. One set leads to a large granite patio where the main fire pit area is supported by another multi-tiered retaining wall. The granite flagstone is cut around the existing granite rock, blending seemlessly with the natural landscape. This granite patio has another path connecting it to the wood shed for quick access to more fire fuel. The other granite stair case leads down to the dock while winding through the large exisiting trees on the property. A long stepping stone path gently connects off the stair case of the main dock, going along the water front, over a small stream, and to the water-sport storage shed and boat dock. Peace and calm truly reign supreme at this cottage retreat.
